How to Make Cold Brew Coffee

I've been making cold brew coffee for over a year now and it's become my favorite way to drink coffee. The beauty of a long, cold brew is that it eliminates the normal bitterness of coffee, leaving you with the smoothest, richest coffee you will ever drink. I had fun taking photos of the process. Everything I use will be linked at the bottom of the post.

Supplies you will need:
  • a cold brew carafe
  • whole coffee beans
  • a coffee grinder

Step 1: Grind the whole beans COARSELY.

I emphasized the word, coarsely, because if they are too fine, they will seep out of the metal filter into your water and make your coffee look muddy. Nobody wants muddy coffee. You can see in the photo that there are still some large chunks of beans. This is perfect. I grind a heaping half cup of beans for a 40 oz. carafe.

Step 2: Fill with water and place in fridge for 12-24 hours.

This is what it looks like before it has brewed overnight. (Maybe I should title this post, Photos of Coffee and Plants.)

Step 3: Pour over ice and add your choice of creamer and sweetener. (You will never regret heavy cream and pure maple syrup.)

Because the coffee has such a long brew, it has a much stronger flavor than regular coffee which means, BE LIBERAL WITH THE CREAM. A splash is not enough. Trust me on this.

Step 4: Savor every drop and try to keep your toddler from sneaking sips.
