Friends
I’m sitting in the Chic-fil-a drive through
Ordering a peach milkshake for my six year old daughter.
My daughter, that suddenly reads stories with appropriate expression,
That counts to sixty any time I say “just a minute,”
That tells me I look like a teenager with my new watch,
That just learned to hold her breath under water.
My daughter, that is still a child,
And already grown.
This tension is hard for her to carry....
And maybe a little hard for her mama too.
But tonight, we cleaned offices together.
We laughed and listened to music.
We talked about the sunset.
She said it was too pretty to describe.
There’s a really good chance we will end up being forever friends.
